Study of extraction of mesocarp and almonds from babaçu, from Brazil nuts, Pequi almonds and Sacha Inchi seeds using supercritical CO2 and pressurized liquid

Abstract

This research project aims to study the extraction of mesocarp and almond of babaçu (Orbignya phalerata, Mart.), of Brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa), almond of Pequi (Caryocar brasiliensis Camb.) and seed of Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.). These extracts will be obtained by supercritical CO2 extraction (SFE), a method to obtain extracts free of organic solvents residues; and the extraction with liquid pressurized (PLE), a quick, efficient and selective method used to obtain various compounds. The extracts obtained under different operating conditions will be evaluated for their composition and physic-chemical properties. In oily extracts will be measures the physical properties such as solubility in supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2), viscosity, density, and the vapor pressure using thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), determining the profile of fatty acids and triglycerides in the composition. The knowledge of certain physical properties, the composition of their triacylglycerols and data of vapor-liquid equilibrium of these oils are considered necessary and important for the modelling and simulation processes involving this mixture of compounds, as well as the development of separation processes practices or projection of other processing techniques based on its cost-effectiveness.Studies directed to babaçú aim to decipher the phyto-chemical composition and potential toxicity in vivo of the mesocarp flour and extracts. Babaçú is a native plant with proven pharmacological activity. The mesocarp extract will be extracted using SFE and PLE.In babaçú extracts will be evaluated substances that may be related to the activities assigned to the flour, such as phenolic compounds, terpenes and volatile. The antioxidant activity of these extracts will be evaluated by testing inhibition of DPPH and ABTS radical. In the extracts obtained in optimized conditions of the different methods that provide higher levels of compounds with activity will be proceeded acute toxicity evaluation tests and repeated doses in addition to histological parameters, hematological and biochemical using mice as in vivo system. In vitro digestibility studies will be conducted to evaluate the bioavailability and biotransformation of the active compounds. This study will contribute to the generation of original results that will serve as a basis for the development and regulation of flour and babaçú extracts as a possible herbal and may contribute to the updating of data in national and international regulatory agencies.
