Abstract

In this project, we will investigate the role of dimensionality and polarization in the scattering of light by point particles. The panel of skills of the participants makes it possible to study light scattering in 10 (optical cavity of Prof. Courteille), 20 (plasmonic structures of Prof. Guimarães) and 3D (magneto-optical traps of Prof. Kaiser). The dimensionality of the system is a critical parameter for scattering as it determines the strength of the coupling between the particles (e.g. a 1/r potential in 3D, but a mean-field in 10). A recent study within our collaboration showed that the dimensionality also allows you to change the nature scalar/vector of the waves and the coupling of polarization, with dramatic consequences on location of Anderson and subradiance. This project aims at identifying and characterizing the role of dimensionality and polarization in the physics of localization of Oicke subradiance, with potential experiments in the three above mentioned systems.
