Microarthroscopic assessment of scapulohumeral joint and bicipital bursa of horses

Abstract

Microarthroscopy has been recently described for evaluation of femorotibiopatelar joint evaluation of athletic horses in standing position. Its capacity to explore anatomical structures which usually would not be visualized by either radiography or ultrasonography makes this imaging technique a useful diagnostic tool. Most importantly, the patient may remain in standing position during the procedure, with no need for general anesthesia. The purpose of the present study is to standardize the microathroscopic assessment of the scapulohumaral joint and bicipital bursa of horses in order to develop an ancillary and complementary diagnostic method to the radiography and ultrasonography. This diagnostic procedure has not yet been described for horses. (AU)
