Abstract

The work plan for the visit of Professor lan Mackenzie include (1) scientific activities directly related to the ongoing Young Investigation Award grant under the coordination of the proponent, as well as (2) visit to other Institutions in the State of São Paulo that carry out research activities in cognate areas, (3) lectures, (4) Participation as a collaborator lecturer on a subject from the Post-Graduation Program of Oral Biology at Bauru School of Dentistry, and (5) Delineation of the PhD project to be partially developed at Prof. Mackenzies laboratory in the near future (2018). Specifically, the scientific activities aim to evaluate (a) the presence and distribution of amoeboid cells, a subpopulation of cancer stem cells, in retrospective histo-pathological specimens of Brazilian oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), and (b) the expression of genes related to the amoeboid phenotype in circulating tumour cells from the blood of OSCC patients. The biological samples as the immunostaining conditions will be obtained previously to the visit, while the results will be analyzed and discussed jointly between the researchers. The relevant data will be organized as a scientific manuscript to be submitted until the end of the visit. (AU)
