Abstract

This project aims to stablish a scientific cooperation between the University of Campinas and the University of Barcelona through the involved research groups. The Brazilian research group has a Young Research Project (JP) devoted to the investigation of urban wastewater disinfection and water reuse while the Spanish research group expertize is the removal of emerging contaminants by advanced oxidation technologies. We believe that such cooperation will increase the achievements of the JP project in Brazil due the extensive experience and advanced equipment the Spanish research group has. One of the specific objectives of the JP project is to verify the removal of some industrial contaminants such as additives and detergents (nonylphenol and phthalates). With that collaboration, it will be possible to extend that research to verify the removal of others compounds called emerging contaminants (EC). Those compounds starts to be legislated in Europe and US after numerous research projects had identified compounds that can be used as EC removals indicators. Among those contaminants we can found pharmaceuticals, pesticides, hormones and personal care products. 17a-etinilestradiol, benzotriazol, diclofenac, mecoprop, sulfametoxazol, terbutrin were the compounds chosen to be aim of this complementary investigation.
