Abstract

Introduction-jaw atresia is a change dento-skeletal-related decrease in cross maxillary arch, common in childhood and may be associated with respiratory problems. Therefore the relationship between craniofacial morphology and breathing have become an object of study of various health care professionals like orthodontists and otolaryngologists. Methodology - The sample will consist of 40 tomographic images corresponding to 20 patients of both genders, aged 05-12 years in mixed dentition and / or permanent mouth breathing treated with rapid maxillary expansion. Selected patients will undergo rapid maxillary expansion and assessed by computed tomography (CBCT) at two different times: in the early stage (T1) and 180 days after the rapid maxillary expansion. The control group will consist of 20 patients and will be analyzed between phases T1 and T2, the six month period will be considered a control period in which they were not submitted to maxillary expansion. Volumetric, linear measurements and structures area will be made. The Shapiro-Wilk test will be applied for significance values. To evaluate the reliability of the measures and the degree of intra-observer agreement will apply the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) methodology (AU)
