Abstract

In recent years, thermoelectricity has received great attention due to its technological and environmental appeals. The scientific community has also devoted efforts investigating SrTiO3, a compound that presents a great number of interesting properties from the scientific and also technological points of view. Among them, the possibility of converting heat in electricity (thermoelectricity) is one of the most important.Our project will calculate the thermoelectric properties of Nb doped SrTiO3 samples grown over LaAlO3. The samples are grown in Barcelona (Spain) using the pulsed laser deposition method and they will be experimentally characterized in Valencia (Spain). Our results will support the experimental groups, determining the parameters that optimize the thermoelectric performance of the samples. On the "theoretical side", a researcher from the Néel Institute (France) will also take part in our study.Our research will contribute to a better understanding of the doping and substrate effects on the SrTiO3 properties, giving rise to devices with higher thermoelectric performance. To reach this goal, we will employ "ab initio" calculations, a very well established methodology that demands a robust computational infrastructure. (AU)
