Abstract

Animal venoms are considered as a large natural library, where each molecule is endowed with pharmacological property highly valuable for human use. Because of their great complexity and diversity, the interest for those lethal cocktails has increased. However and despite the efforts, out of 40 million different estimated compounds, only 3,000 have been identified and characterized to date. Fortunately, this scenario has undergone changes, especially with the combined advances in proteomics and transcriptomics, which now can give access to the whole settings of single venom. Within this context, this project proposes to combine the recognized expertise of the researchers of the Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry, University of Liége - ULg, led by Prof. Dr. Loic Quinton, with the extensive experience of the research group led by Prof. Dr. Eliane Candiani Arantes Braga (Laboratory of Animal Toxins, University of São Paulo - USP). Additionally, this proposition aims at promoting the scientific integration between the two groups, allowing the technological innovation and the knowledge exchange among involved researchers. In order to accomplish this project, 2 visits (15 days each) are planned. During these visits, seminars, practical and theoretical mini-courses concerning the aims of this project will be ministered by researchers from both countries. (AU)
