Abstract

In a recent paper about World Agricultural Pesticides: Industry Study with Forecasts for 2016 & 2021, the authors reported that the world agricultural pesticide industry has been transformed by several years of robust growth coupled with new environmental regulations and changing crop mix trends. They also reported that the increased farming of biofuel crops and the use of genetically modified seeds caused the pesticide sales in Brazil to more than double between 2013 and 2015, with Brazil surpassing the US to become the largest market in the world. According to this group going forward, growth in the global formulated pesticide demand will return to more sustainable levels following strong gains from 2013 to 2015, with the sales forecast approaching $59 billion in 2016. Significant opportunities will exist in Brazil. The sale of pesticides in Brazil will be aided by the increasing demand for industrial feedstock crops and the use of more sophisticated farming techniques (website: www.freedoniagroup.com). The Brazilian import of pesticides hit a record high in 2013 and 2015. Pesticides are the second most important item in the import account of agricultural sector, behind only fertiliser. This information demonstrated the great need for a program for the minor import of pesticides. This proposal intends to respond to these needs, which are classified as strategic in the public policy of the Federal Government documents. The powers of the coordinator team demonstrate its potential to achieve major breakthroughs in the proposed theme. This proposal discusses a current and strategic top of great scientific and technological importance, and seeks specific applications with the potential to generate new pesticides, bactericides and fungicides for the control of pests and diseases of important crops for Brazil. Thus, he general objective of this proposal is to develop new complexes of Mg (II) with flavonoids and other phenolic, improve synthesis methodology previously developed by the group, reducing the amount of solvent making it more economical and potentially more active to the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa and other pathogens and insects. Thus, the specific objectives are: To improve the method of synthesis, decreasing the amount of solvent or eliminating making it more economical for a future synthesis at pilot scale; Prepare complexes with flavonoid derived from citrus waste, then making the research more economic; Preparing the complex using phenol isovanílico acid; Studying the complex mode of action, initially in seedlings; Develop quantitative methodology in order to analyse the absorption of complex for the seedling, ie verify if the loss to the environment is small; Studying the complex mode of action, initially in seedlings after inoculation of bacteria and check their interaction with the biofilm using fluorescent property complex; Bioassay the complex in vitro and in vivo with other bacteria and pathogenic fungi of citrus, starting with Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri, which causes citrus canker disease, and leading to huge losses to the citrus industry.
