Abstract

Knowledge about the way innovations in public policy are built is fundamental to creating effective governance systems for tackling global environmental problems, such as climate change and biodiversity. The research will advance knowledge about governance related to global environmental changes at the different levels to develop new concepts and approaches to understand how to build local solutions to those problems. The project will develop a framework to assess the innovative capabilities in municipalities for finding novel solutions to global environmental problems at the local level. The frameowkr will be tested empirically in municipalities in Brazil. The researcher is well-positioned to publish the research in peer-reviewed academic publications to guarantee the academic quality of the research and disseminate to decision makers in organizations and governments in Brazil and elsewhere through websites, policy briefs and seminars.
