Abstract
The present grant application for a thematic research project has the main goal to offer financial support to different studies related to the Zika Vírus (ZIKV), presently under development at the Virology (LV) and Vaccine Research Laboratory (LDV) at the University of São Paulo (USP). The work is centered in four main themes: I) generation and application of ZIKV recombinant proteins aiming the development of vaccines and specific serological tests; II) development of experimental in vitro and in vivo models and establishment of biomarkers for the detection and monitoring of the immune responses induced by ZIKV as well as protective immunity induced by vaccine formulations; III) development and testing of different vaccine formulations capable to prevent ZIKV infection, which will include test of different candidate antigens, adjuvants and inoculation routes; and (IV) development of serological tests specific for ZIKV based on different recombinant antigens. The proposed work will be carried out as collaboration with different research groups from USP and other institutions, such as Butantan Institute, Fiocruz and Institute Pasteur. The LV e LDV have established competence in the development of vaccines and serological tests against Dengue Virus (DENV) as well as other virus and pathogens. The proposed projects are supported by the experience of both groups as demonstrated by publications during the last few years. In addition, results already obtained by the groups, in the scope of the present application, have already resulted in publications, patent applications and scientific discoveries which are already under use by different institutions in the country and abroad. The expected results will bring important impacts both on the serology of ZIKV as well as in researches focused on the development of vaccines for human use. The results to be achieved during the project will have relevant academic contributions and will led to the technological developments at short and medium term run. (AU)
