Abstract

In the last two decades, important advances have been made in our understanding of quantum mechanics at the microscale and nanoscale. These investigations have been boosted by a multitude of motivations, some of which are fundamental in nature - like the study of decoherence, quantum measurement, or entanglement in a new regime - and other are applied - such as the development of new devices for using in quantum information architectures or for the sensing of week signals. The pursuit of these studies and applications has also stimulate the development of new hybrid quantum systems. In this proposal for the Programa de Jovens Pesquisadores FAPESP, the coordinator puts forth a research plan to advance the development of a research line to study hybrid quantum systems. As a general objective, the project for this new research group, will yield the first experimental efforts in Brazil to develop and utilize the state-of-the-art superconducting circuits and qubit technology as a test-bed to study decoherence, quantum measurement, or entanglement in a new regime. More specifically the outstanding goal in the field: the measurement of the energy eigenstates of a nanomechanical resonator and the measurement of entangled states of a nanomechanical resonator and a qubit, and the potential to create national and international collaboration.
