Access Control and Surveillance Monitoring of the animal research facility of the Mackenzie Presbyterian University

Abstract

The animal research facility of the Mackenzie Presbyterian University started its activities 7 years ago, houses rats and mice used in research in cardiovascular/renal physiology, toxicology, neurophysiology and behavioral neuroscience. Since its inception, 8 research projects, involving undergraduate and graduate students, yielded 85 manuscripts in scientific journal. In order to ensure the safety of animal housing areas and to enhance the scientific rigor in data collection and analysis, as recommend by Conselho Nacional de Controle de Experimentação Animal (CONCEA), we aim to install in the animal housing areas a biometric access control and monitoring system and an automated rodent behavioral assessment.
