Abstract

Our previous results from Research grant (Process: 2015 / 03437-6) lead us to the current proposal that aims to advance in the evaluation of the endodontic treatment procedures by using Computerized Microtomography, and in the development of repair materials. The proposed studies are divided into 5 subprojects that aim to evaluate new instruments, techniques and kinematics of root canal preparation using Nickel-Titanium instruments, repair materials and root canal filling techniques. Also, new methodologies using Micro-CT and physicochemical and biological properties of tricalcium silicate materials will be evaluated.Subproject 1 - New Nickel-Titanium instruments with heat treatment are developed. Part A - evaluation of the cyclic fatigue resistance of ProDesing Logic and ProDesing R instruments (Easy Dental Equipments, Belo Horizonte, Brazil). Part B - Micro-ct evaluation of preparation, filling, retreatment and cleaning of root canals form lower molars, using the ProDesing Logic rotary system and the reciprocating system Prodesing R.Subproject 2 - Computerized microtomography is used for different analyzes in Endodontics. The influence of different resolutions on the scanning before and after the root canal preparation, cleaning and obturation of human lower molars will be evaluated, aiming to verify the need for scans with different resolutions for analysis of debris, micro-cracks, failure percentage and filling capacity.Subproject 3 - Previous studies performed by our research group have enabled the development of new methodologies for the evaluation of volumetric alteration, filling capacity, flow and porosity of endodontic materials by using Micro-CT proposals. New tests with different dimensions and scanning parameters will be performed in order to develop and define standardized methodologies for the evaluation of physicochemical properties of endodontic cements and repair materials. Subproject 4 - Tricalcium silicate doped with fluorine ions (C3S-F) was developed with potential use as biomaterial. This study aims to evaluate C3S-F associated with radiopacifiers. The physicochemical properties, biocompatibility, antimicrobial capacity and bioactive potential of these materials will be evaluated. Also, it will be evaluated a material based on Tricalcium silicate associated with radiopacifier calcium tungstate or niobium oxide. A bioactive glass-ceramic was developed with the name of Biosilicate (UFSC, São Carlos). A new material based on Tricalcium silicate associated with the radiopacifier zirconium oxide and 10 or 20% of biosilicate will be evaluated. Physicochemical properties (setting time, radiopacity, solubility, pH) and the biological properties (biocompatibility, antimicrobial capacity and bioactive potential) of the materials will be evaluated.
