Abstract

The Project goal is to locally develop an innovative technology to manufacture Automatic Slide Processors for Liquid Base Cytology (LBC), putting Brazil among the countries that own this technology. The local production, with its consequent lower price, will enable the dissemination of the Liquid Base Cytology to improve the efficiency of the national screening program for cervical cancer prevention. The LBC is proven to be more efficient in preventing this kind of cancer. The lack of a locally manufactured slide processor This project will study the necessary processes to automatically prepare a glass slide with a mono layer of cells extracted from a solution containing cervix cells. The slide will later be analyzed by Pathologists. The automation of this process is already a reality in developed countries and it is known to provide significantly better conditions for the Pathologists' diagnosis. Although Brazil is a world reference for several cancer treatments, we still depend on high cost foreign technology to provide the LBC for the population. This project intends to develop a locally manufactured equipment with innovative characteristics to better address the local needs. (AU)
