Abstract

In recent years, population growth in urban areas has resulted in an increase in demand for electricity in a dispersed manner, bringing challenges to the planning of distribution systems to supply this demand. In addition, incentives for the installation of photovoltaic solar panels and the implementation of electric mobility policies make it necessary to carry out analyzes with a spatial perspective to determine the locations with the significant impact on the power distribution networks. Geographic information systems are computational tools that allow the processing of data with geographic reference. These systems allow the visualization of socioeconomic characteristics, spatial distribution of energy resources and the geographical location of load centers within the study zone, providing spatial databases with useful information for the future plans of distribution utilities. With the aim of assisting in the planning of distribution networks, this research project proposes to develop methodologies within geographic information systems that assist utilities in the expansion planning of distribution networks, using techniques available in such systems, and creating new algorithms that consider the local characteristics of the distribution concession area.
