Abstract

It has been previously reported that Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT) can increase or decrease the synthesis of proteins as well as the differentiation and cell growth when it is applied to different tissues. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of Diode Low Intensity Laser Therapy on submandibulary and parotid glands of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Wistar rats with about 200g of body weight will be used. They will be divided into 5 groups, named Experimental groups (A, B and F) and Control group (C and D). Rats will be anesthetized by intraperitoneal injection of Cloralhidrate 400mg/kg body weight and Natrium Diaethilbarbituricum 50mg/kg. Diode Laser will be applied on parotid, submandibulary and sublingual glands in experimental groups. The total energy applied per area will be 4 J/cm2 for group A, 8 J/cm2 for group B and 20 J/cm2 for group F. Group C and D will not be irradiated. Salivary glands will be collected after 12 and 24h of irradiation. Group C will be the control group and group D will be the diabetic control group. Energetic and protein metabolism of salivary major glands will be analyzed as well as antioxidant system and flux rate in these different times after laser irradiation. (AU)
