Abstract

The goal of this research work is to develop a robust, efficient method for the multiobjective optimal continuation load flow. The continuation load flow is able to obtain a continuum of operating points for variable load and generation, allowing the analysis of each point and, in particular, the determination of the maximum loading for the maintenance of a stable operation. The combination of the continuation load flow with optimization techniques takes into account that, for each operating point, the available control variables can be adjusted so that some optimal operating condition be attained. In fact, more than one optimal conditions are to be met, and the optimization problem becomes a multiobjective one. Therefore, multiobjective programming techniques must be used. These computational tool will be useful for a detailed analysis of the systems behavior as far as many operation aspects, and particularly to the voltage stability. The monitoring of the voltage profile and the determination of the voltage stability conditions are critical for the secure operation of modern power systems, which are permanently under stress. Besides, the idea is also to develop a sensitivity based procedure for the evaluation of voltage stability margin after small disturbances, without the need of performing a detailed and burdensome analysis of the new operating situation.
