Abstract

Since the beginning of the surgeries for the corrections of the facial deformities, in special the mandibular, many techniques had been developed in the last years. Currently the sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) is the most used surgical procedure for the correction of the deformities of the jaw. One controversial question is about the fixation technique used. This is because many techniques are used for this setting, without the existence of a consensus between the authors. Due to this great diversity of techniques, the effectiveness of each one of them should be tested, mainly how each one can resist the mastigatory forces. Based on this fact, the objective of this work is to evaluate the mechanical resistance of each one of these techniques, as well as verifying the exerted forces of stress in the components of these fixations. The sample for this study will be 100 half jaws confectioned in polyurethane to study 4 techniques of SSRO (3 screws arranged linearly with 90°, idem to the previous one, however with an angle of 60°, 3 screws arranged in L, 1 titanium plate with 5 holes and the controlled group). The results of these tests will be submitted to statistical analysis to compare, the mean of loading (kgf) and the displacement (mm) of the five groups submitted to mechanical tests. (AU)
