Abstract

Umbilical cables and flexible pipes for deepwater offshore oil production are very complex elements in a structural viewpoint. They are formed by several components of different materials and different structural functions. This project is dedicated to the design of such elements, focusing three main aspects: the development of a CAD tool aiming to help the definition of the geometrical arrangement for the components of an umbilical cable or flexible pipe, the study and development of models for stress distribution calculation and a visualization tool able to construct a virtual prototype of an umbilical cable or flexible pipe.
