Abstract

In the last years Education has been objective of several studies, what probably reflects its great importance in the context of a nation. The analysis of the educational system generally embraces two points: the school attendance and the quality of education. In relation to the school inclusion in Brazil, it is known that this variable obtained success during the last decade, however, the same cannot be said relatively to the teaching quality. The objective of this research is to analyze the determinant of the Brazilian children's school achievement, taking the family as main focus. The family paper will be approached by three aspects: the impact of the investments accomplished by the family in school input; the impact of the motivation given by the family to the child and the impact of mother's participation in the labor market. The first two topics will be measured by data of SAEB 2003 and the data of PME 2002-2005 will provide the analysis of the impact of mother's participation in the labor market on children's educational achievement.The results of the proposed study can be used as support to educational politics makers, since favorable family behaviors to children's educational achievement can be copied and taken for the school environment. So, the improvement in teaching quality will provide to students most benefits of education.
