Abstract

This study results from analyzing Brazilian psychoanalyst Fabio Herrmann's perspective that literary fiction is the analogous reign of Psychoanalysis. This is a central proposal in his body of work, because it delves into the fundamentals of Psychoanalysis and brings to the forth a second perspective, this time a Freudian one, that points to the vocational horizon of Psychoanalysis, which is to become a general science of the psyche. Through the theory of the analogous reign, and exploring the relationship between Psychoanalysis and Literature according to different authors, my idea is to work with the hypothesis that Psychoanalysis may also constitute literary genre, mainly considering the books "Adam's Infancy and Other Freudian Fictions" (Herrmann, 2002a) and "Scaffolds of the Real: A Critical Revision of the Method of Psychoanalysis" (Herrmann, 1979). The former exemplifies original literary genre as psychoanalytic writing and the latter is an epistemological writing. This distinction can be discussed as an ultimate distinction between the texts, although to some extent both texts are simultaneously poetic and scientific: Psychoanalysis is an artistic science (Herrmann, 2002b), where the art or the science aspects can be emphasized. The pair "diurnal Herrmann diurno/nocturnal Herrmann", suggested by João Frayze-Pereira and inspired by Gastón Bachelard, serves as a metaphor in my study; mine is a study that combines the endo and exopoetic perspectives (GREEN, 1994: 97). Other interpretants are likely to arise from philosophical and psychoanalytic readings I will engage with, in interlocution with Herrmann's system of thinking. (AU)
