Abstract

The process of replacement of native vegetation, especially forest cover, due to population explosion and expansion of agricultural frontiers resulted in forest fragmentation in São Paulo state. Forest fragmentation reduces the size of the breeding population, population density and can isolate populations and individuals in fields and pastures. Thus, understanding their effects is essential to provide recommendations for conservation of forest species. Among the forest species of great importance highlight Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan (Leguminosae-Mimosoidae), popularly known as "angico". It is an arboreal species with very diverse uses: extraction of tannin, used in popular medicine, furniture, ornaments, coal, and because have fast growing and tolerant to sandy soils is widely used for restoration riparian forests. Within this context, the objectives of this project are: 1) Develop, standardize and characterize microsatellite molecular markers for forest species Anadenanthera colubrina - Leguminosae, 2) Evaluate the diversity and genetic divergence, breeding system and gene flow in populations of A. colubrina under different conditions of preservation located in Ribeirão Preto-SP, and 3) Test the transfer of the markers developed in A. colubrina to A. peregrina, other important species of the genus. The results of this study will understand the formation of the structure gene in populations highly fragmented, providing indications of the storage potential of A. colubrina and transferability studies could encourage work of this magnitude for A. peregrina.
