Abstract

The present project aims to verify the impact by the inclusion of precipitation data in the CPTEC ‘s RPSAS data assimilation system. This study focuses the simulation of the mesoscale convective complexes over the South America that occurred during the season of 18 – 23 January 2003, on the South America Low-Level Jet Experiment (SALLJEX) campaign. For it, will be employed the CPTEC’s ETA model with 20km spatial resolution, whose cover most of South America. Due to make the comparisons, NCEP/DOE, GPCP and CRU data set reanalysis II and the observed data set during SALLGEX campaign will be used. At this point, will be possible to discuss the importance of the precipitation data assimilation in the RPSAS and more, will be possible to discuss at witch level the precipitation data assimilation technique must be employed to improve the weather forecasts.
