Abstract

At the beginning of century XIX, employees of the Bibliotheca Nacional and Pública of Rio de Janeiro (current Biblioteca Nacional) had decided to register the book order for readings carried through in the institution, as well as the name of the readers, with sights to prevent damages or loss of the quantity, producing daily registers with the headings of books and the name of that they consulted them. The result of this work is the fourteen Codices of Public Consultation, that understand the period of 1833 the 1856, found in the Section of Manuscripts of this same library currently. To list the set of workmanships of Beautiful requested Letters; to detach, in its interior, the novels; to identify to its headings and authors, to verify most requested and to analyze them, as well as tracing a profile of the readers most frequent of this sort in this public library are the objectives of this research.
