Abstract

Leishmaniasis are zoonosis that have great importance in public health because of its high incidence and wide distribution. Urban and peri-urban areas has an important rule in the epidemiology of this disease. This study aims to assess the occurrence of Leishmania spp. in marsupials reservoirs for better understanding their rule in the epidemiology of this zoonosis. Skin samples of marsupials Micoureus paraguayanus and Didelphis albiventris have been collected in Morro do Diabo State Park, Pontal do Paranapanema-SP, in the forest fragments and their surroundings. Samples will be evaluated for the presence of Leishmania spp. by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), with subsequent species differentiation, when positive.
