This SCIENTIFIC PROJECT was elaborated to be executed in 36 months during the Doctoral Course of Tatiane Moraes Arantes, master student of Programa de Pós-graduação em Química do Departamento de Química da UFSCar-Universidade Federal de São Carlos, with probable defense date in February 01, 2009. The subject of this PROJECT is the synthesis, development and characterization of a new series of nanocomposite materials obtained by the insertion of synthetic nanoparticles into SBR and NBR polymeric matrixes. Spherical nanosized particles of SiO2, synthesized by Stober method, and commercial lamellar particles (laponite) will be functionalized through the use of coupling silane agents, such as trichlorosilane and trialkoxysilane. Silanes with different functional groups will be used to compatibilize the nanoparticles with the polymeric chains. Nanocomposites of silica and SBR or NBR will be prepared by means of the colloidal route, which consists of a mixture of polymeric latex and nanoparticles dispersions. The system will be reticulated using agents for radical formation, incorporating the nanoparticles to polymeric net by covalent chemical bonds. It is expected that the nanocomposites will show superior chemical, physical and mechanical properties than pure polymers. Experimental work will be performed at the Laboratório Interdisciplinar de Eletroquímica e Cerâmica, Departamento de Química/UFSCar (LIEC/DQ-UFSCar) with founds from CNPq 555644-2006-5 and FAPESP 07/58891-2 projects, and with support of the CEPID/CMDMC FAPESP 98/14324-0. It is also planned to use the facilities of the Departamento de Química (NMR) and of the Departamento de Engenharia de Materiais (TEM) of the UFSCar. (AU)
