Abstract

Diabetic women have been encouraged to breastfeed for reasons that include a possible reduction in the risk of diabetes in their children. Evidence experimental and epidemiological suggest that diet may be important in the pathogenesis of diabetes. In the literature suggest that breast milk may be a factor for the protection of diabetes, and this effect is due to the anti-infective factors, or the fact that breastfeeding to prevent that children are exposed early to other etiologic agents contained in milk substitutes. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the interactions between soluble factors (antibodies and hormone) and cell present in the colostrum of mild hyperglycemic and diabetic mothers. It is expected to develop this project to better understand the interactions between the soluble and cellular elements present in colostrum and breast milk of diabetic mothers, and improve maternal and child health, as in Brazil and developing countries maternal morbidity and mortality and children are still regarded as a public health problem.
