Abstract

Stereotypes are cultural processes that give rise to expectations, habits, or trial and false generalizations and they are prone to show reproduction of prejudiced thinking, reinforcing the prejudice and serving to justify it. Stereotypes about the figure of the nurse are, until today, often conveyed by the media, including the Internet, which grows, often the issue of social prejudice and even racial, but the social issue of underestimation or devaluation the role of the nurse as a woman, which should help the doctor to cure the patient, doing what the doctors do not care. Brazil during the twentieth century, built for himself an image that would be a country free of racial prejudice. This would be derived from an Iberian model of colonization that would have favored the formation of a mestizo nation. Similarly, the prejudice of color, which could still occur in some cases, would be mitigated by a number of subjective and affective factors, expanding the possibilities of the coexistence between the different colors and ethnicities and by giving in our country, has been generated a "racial democracy". In the case of nursing, to refer to the origin and the entry of the first students in the School of Nursing Anna Nery, is that the ticket has not only depend on the possession of the diploma course normal, but was requested as pre-requisite that the applicant was "white". Tried it barred access to the profession not only women from the poor, such as those from the population quota of black and mestizo majority. This study has as central objective to describe issues of the identity of the nurse is (a) black formed by the School of Nursing, University of São Paulo from the perspective of the Theory of Transcultural Nursing through the analysis of situations of prejudice experienced by these nurses facing their career choice, their formation academic and their integration into the labor market.To be this work of descriptive character, historical, social and exploratory, we opted for the method of Oral History, a research method that uses the interview and other processes linked together in the narrative record of human experience. It was also chosen by the method of Oral History Thematic considering the fact that this method helps people to speak freely in their respective contexts. Thus, to choose this theoretical framework, we did so because we believe that allow the unveiling of the phenomenon studied. This research brings the history to a more democratic activity over their own communities, because it allows to build own history from the words of those who experienced and participated in a given period, by its references, and also his imagination, allowing the registration of individual memories or reminiscences of the reinterpretation of the past.
