Abstract

The aim of this master's project is to analyze the chronicles of Rubem Braga written between the years 1930 and 1960. We will select the texts that exhibit more emphatically the thematic of country/city and rural/urban life, pointing out which concepts and values are shown in the author's representations concerning these two types of localities. In addition, documents of that time will be studied, such as magazines and newspapers clippings, in order to grasp both the social position of the writer and the reception that the images propagated by him had in the period in question. The research will also attempt to comprehend the kind of dialog between these chronicles and the national context, marked by the processes of modernization, industrialization and urbanization.
