Abstract

The aim of this study is to monitoring the antimicrobial resistance status in Salmonella spp. isolated from food-producing animals and related sources to improve the quality and guarantee food safety of animal products, where antibiotics are widely used as a therapeutic, prophylactic, and/or growth promoter resort. This research is integrated into the multicentric study "Desenvolvimento e aplicação de metodologia nacional para o estudo farmacocinético, a determinação do período de carência e a realização de análises de risco para medicamentos veterinários de uso em animais de produção" (Coordinated by Prof. Dr. João Palermo Neto, FMVZ/USP), and the results obtained will be used to establish national and international parameters for the use of antimicrobial agents in poultry, bovine and swine production, in Brazil. Moreover, some assays will be design to evaluate the cross-resistance of the studied species to antibiotic used in the treatment of human infectious diseases, contributing to the study of resistance origin and their impact on public health, a current clinical and epidemiological problem.
