Abstract

This research project aims to study Indicative Past Perfect verbal forms in Archaic Portuguese (AP), considering all perfect verbal forms that occur in Alfonso X's Cantigas de Santa Maria (13th century). The methodology is based on mapping, analyzing and comparing morphophonological processes that are conditioned by verbal inflection, in two synchronies of Portuguese language: Archaic Portuguese (AP) and Brazilian Portuguese (BP). The main goal is to show in which way morphophonological processes related to Indicative Past Perfect verbal inflection are modified and in which way they are maintained, in order to contribute to a broader understanding of the history and the evolution of the language, in the sense of elucidating some important facts of the linguistic past of Portuguese that can help to understand facts of its contemporary structure.
