Abstract

Obesity has become nowadays one of the great challenges of veterinary medicine. Its incidence in company animals has been gradually increasing. Among the various deleterious effects of obesity are the cardiorespiratory diseases, dermatopathies and Diabetes Mellitus. Due to the frequency in which the incidence of obesity is observed, and its consequences on the health and life quality of animals, nutritional handling becomes an important tool in prevention and treatment. Nutrients present on the diet, such as fibers and proteins, can intervene in satiety and alter the consumption of foods, modifying the plasmatic contents of hormones which act in the energetic consumption regulation, like leptin and ghrelin, besides modulating glycemic and insulin postprandial responses of animals. Thus, this study will evaluate the effects of the addition of different concentrations of dietetic fiber and protein in extrused dry diets for cats. The experiment will include five types of cat food: control with low fiber and low protein (LFLP); high soluble fiber and high protein (HSFHP); high soluble fiber and low protein (HSFLP); high unsoluble fiber and high protein (HUFHP) and high unsoluble fiber and low protein (HUFLP). An outline in casualized blocks will be adopted, with 20 cats distributed in two blocks of 20 animals, totalizing eight repetitions per treatment. The digestibility of the nutrients, satiety, glycemy and postprandial insulinemy, leptin and ghrelin plasmatic levels and corporal composition through the dilution method of isotopes of Deuterium will be evaluated. The obtained data will be evaluated by the GLM function of SAS. Multiple comparisons will be carried out by the test of Tukey at a probability of 5%. (AU)
