Abstract

Throughout the development of the animal, many metabolic changes occur which are mediated and influenced by several factors that have not been well explored in goats in various stages of growth. These changes will greatly affect the body composition and consequently the nutritional requirements of animals and their traits. Thus, we have the objective of this project to determine the nutritional requirements for maintenance and growth in female Saanen goats and bulls and steers (n = 90) with body weight ranging from 30 to 45 kg, representing a growing phase to the beginning puberty. At the beginning of the experiment will be slaughtered six animals in each category to represent the initial body composition. Another six in each category will be fed and will be slaughtered when they reached 37.5 kilograms of body weight. The remaining animals will be distributed in three different feeding levels (ad libitum, 25% and 50% food restriction). The animals submitted to food restriction (25 and 50%) will have their consumption calculated based on the amount consumed by the animal fed ad libitum. To determine the requirements will be used the comparative slaughter technique. It will also be carried out sampling of feces, urine for determination of nutrient digestibility, nitrogen balance and partition of energy.
