Abstract

This research investigates the theory of language of Jean-Jacques Rousseau - as it is presented in the Essay on the Origin of Languages and in other texts or fragments that contain reflexions about language or music - and the relation of his theory with the "Cartesian linguistic". The hypothesis that conduces the beginning of this research is the centrality of notions, specially musical, such as "accent", "melody and "musical imitation", that are articulated in a doctrine of language based in a musical paradigm that trembles the foundations of the classical idea of linguistic presented by Port-Royal . It´s subject is Rousseau's attitude in refusing the logical-grammatical paradigm as the basic directives for the "Cartesian linguistics" when defining his conception of language as fundamentally rhetorical and sustained by a musical model.
