Abstract

The thesis proposed here aims to investigate the formation process of a Catholic militant culture and Catholic workers' action in Belo Horizonte, since the founding of the first lay Catholic organization in 1909 until the early 1940s, whereas struggles for space, the flourishing of Catholic option for dealing with the social question and specific everyday experiences, and also the strategies to fight for improvements in working and life conditions. Accordingly, it seeks to understand how the lay Catholic activism set up and understand the experiences shared by workers, who have made include a confessional culture in political activism. That done, you can reappraise the activism of workers who have often been excluded from the labor movement by the historiography of work.
