Abstract The currently taxonomy of the genus Diplodonta Bronn, 1831 is only based on shell characters, requiring a detailed anatomic study. The taxonomic historic of this species is commonly associated at the genus Lucina (Lucinidae), taxonomic closely at the studied genus. In the Brazilian coast are recognized the species D. punctata (Say, 1822), D. nucleiformis Wagner, 1838, D. portesiana (D'Orbigny, 1842), D. patagonica (D' Orbigny, 1842) e D. danieli Klein, 1957. Preliminary analyses show that the characters of shell have patterns beyond that established for that cited species. To acquire better data, enrich the species definitions and get phylogenetic data about the genus, there is a need of detailed anatomic studies. With that, the present work aims get and analyze anatomic characters form the Diplodonta species to help elucidate his taxonomy on Brazilian coast. | |
