Abstract

After the discovery of osseointegration, implantology has achieved great success in oral rehabilitation. The formation of an oxide layer in the surface of titanium implants promotes greater stability, which prevents the discharge of ions to the body, as occurs in cases of corrosion of the implant surface, as this process promotes greater roughness in the implants. Titanium is commonly used in dentistry in its pure form; however, different grades of titanium influence its malleability and toughness, since the purity of the titanium increases more malleable presents itself. Some systems employ a titanium alloy, most often constituted by titanium, aluminum and vanadium. Its main feature is to be more resistant mechanically, due to a thicker layer of oxides. The titanium surface when exposed to oral fluids and diet, especially acidic, can release ions and thereby alter its micro-architecture, which leads to a reduction in the predictability of success. This study aims to evaluate the in vitro changes on the surface of commercially pure titanium and titanium alloy grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), exposed to different substances commonly present in mouth, through roughness analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and EDS method. In this way, 108 discs of Ti will be used, being 54 made of commercially pure titanium, and 54 of titanium alloy grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V). These discs will be divided into nine groups (n = 6), being a control group without treatment and the others will be submitted to immersion in 5 mL of soda Cola, carbamide peroxide16% and 35%, and Hydrogen Peroxide 35% , with or without the artificial saliva. Data will be analyzed to compare the Ticp and Ti alloy immersed in the substances to be tested and the control group. The statistical test to be used will depend on the distribution of these data relative to the curve of normality. The tests will be conducted with a significance level of 5%. (AU)
