Abstract

The aim of this project will verify the activity of the efferent auditory system in neonates who present a risk factor for retrocochlear hearing loss, through research of suppression of otoacoustic emissions. The specific objectives are to verify and compare the magnitude of the response suppression of otoacoustic emissions in neonates who present a risk factor for hearing loss retrocochlear listing the positive and negative results for hearing loss found in the screening performed by automated ABR and check and compare the magnitude of responses suppression of otoacoustic emissions in term infants who do not have risk factors for hearing loss with that feature.Research will be conducted the suppression of otoacoustic emissions - on the premises of CEPRE/FCM/Unicamp - approximately 480 newborns in the maternity ward of the Center for Integral Attention to Women's Health - Caism - located at Unicamp. Newborns form three groups. The study group will be formed by neonates who submit at least one risk factor for hearing loss and retrocochlear fail (group I) or pass (group II) the hearing screening. Group III (control group) will consist of full-term newborns without risk factors for hearing loss. The research of TEOAE suppression will be performed by cochlear emissions analyzer ILO V6 - OTODYNAMICS coupled to a computer and probes for contralateral suppression ILO V6. Children who have tested negative for hearing loss in TEOAE examination and present a risk factor for hearing loss will be forwarded to the monitoring of auditory function and language at 6, 12 and 18 months of age. If necessary, continue monitoring by 36 months. If the child has tested positive for hearing loss in the examination, shall be referred directly for audiological evaluation. The data recorded on the score sheet will be tabulated and analyzed statistically. Descriptive tables will be built with the results of OAE suppression in subjects relating the variables. We hope to get results that contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms of the efferent auditory pathways in infants at high risk for hearing loss and to assist in obtaining diagnostic audiological retrocochlear hearing loss related to generating relevant and constructive questions.
