Abstract

The research wishes to undertake an economic analysis on the cultural spaces in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in the early twentieth century, making use of abundant primary documentation of the period. Due to advances made both in theoretical and empirical data, we are able to compose a systemic framework on cultural spaces in both cities. We propose, in this sense, the establishment of a whole typology of cultural spaces, organizing them by stronger or weaker presence of massification and distinction effects, mapping the position of these spaces within a diagram of social vectors.
