Abstract

One hundred and one years after the discovery of Chagas disease, it remains on the list of neglected diseases and continues victimizing thousands of people, mainly in the poorest regions of Latin America. Caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, it is a silent disease because it can remain asymptomatic for years. In the last 40 years only two medications have been applied for the treatment of Chagas disease, and currently only one product is available on the market in most countries. Moreover, these two drugs do not treat the chronic phase and have severe side effects. In recent years there has been progress in efforts to develop new drugs with trypanocidal activity and many researches have been conducted in this area. The binder H2bdtc is the main target of this research. A recent study showed that the ligand H2bdtc has high potential as anti-Trypanosoma cruzi strain Tulahuen. In this project, we intend to search the trypanocidal capacity in vitro and in vivo, both in solution as in nanoparticulate.
