Abstract

In this work we develop a study of the chronicles of Artur Azevedo published in the "De palanque" at Diários de Notícias and at Novidades, from June 1885 to January 1889, at which time the movement of this kind journalistic and literary had enough prestige in Rio de Janeiro. Our proposal is investigate and understand the project of modernity that guides the composition of these chronicles. The implementation of the research will rely on the query and the rescue of the original texts available in the collections of microfilmed CEDAP (UNESP-Assis) and Edgar Leuenroth Archive (Unicamp). Analysis of the material recovered will be based on the relationship between text and historical and cultural context in order to understand to what extent the events of the capital Empire influenced the elaboration of the project of modernity that guides the writing of chronicles of that section.
