Effect of different light intensities and sowing depth on emergence of several weed species

Abstract

This study will evaluate the effect of sowing depth and light intensity on seed germination of Acanthospermum australe, Brachiaria decumbens, Brachiaria humidicola, Brachiaria plantaginea, Cassia occidentalis, Cassia tora, Cenchrus echinatus, Desmodium tortuosum, Euphorbia heterophylla , gradifolia Ipomoea, Ipomoea quamoclit, Raphanus raphanistrum, and Sida rhombifolia. The experiment will carried out in completely randomized design with four replications and the treatments will be arranged in a factorial scheme 6x4, with the first factor corresponding to six different depths (0.5, 1.0, 2.0; 4.0, 8.0 and 12.0 cm) and factor B four light intensities (100%, 75%, 50% and 25% of sunlight intensity) obtained through the use of agricultural shading. It will be evaluated daily capacity of seed emergence for a minimum period of 30 days from sowing. The SIE (Speed Index Emergency), plant height and time to flower induction will be analyzed and stomatal conductance, which is measured in two periods (vegetative and reproductive) development of weed species under treatments, through the use of a porometer. The results will be submitted to analysis of variance test by "F" and the means of treatments will be compared by Tukey test at 5% probability, and will be made when appropriate regression analysis.
