Abstract

Myrtaceae is one of the dominant families in the Atlantic Rainforest, however ecological informations, such as phenology, pollination and reproduction of their representatives are still scarce. Most works focuses on a few aspects such as floral biology and the ratio of visitors observed, but rarely those that show whether visitors are actually effective pollinators. Among the Brazilian Myrtaceae there are numerous fruit species, some commercially exploited, such as goiabeira, pitangueira and jabuticabeira. These species represent only a small fraction of the vast economic potential of the family, given the large number of edible fruits, non-commercial. In Myrtaceae, the genera Eugenia, Campomanesia, Psidium and Myrciaria have numerous species of economic and ecological interests, like the cambuci (Campomanesia phaea). Unfortunately there are no studies on the phenology, pollination and reproduction of this species. The main objective of this project is to reduce these gaps on the knowledge about C. phaea. We aim to study the ecology of the cambuci and the interactions with flower visitors in natural conditions and in a cultivated area. We hope to create subsidies for increase fruit yield in this crop.
