Abstract

Globally there is a great demand for alternative sources of energy, propitiating an intense expansion to the Brazilian sugarcane sector that becomes avid for more technologies to maximize the sugarcane production and increase the economical return. Precision agriculture emerges as an important tool to use, among other equipments, sensors that enable fertilization in variable rates and real time. For this reason, it is proposed this research project in order to validate the nitrogen fertilization management at variable rates with the support of ground active optical sensors on the sugarcane crop. To reach this goal, will be installed greenhouse experiments to understand potential factors affecting the measurements with optical sensors, as well as determining the spectral curve of sugarcane; field experiments in the form of plots to identify the crop response to nitrogen rates from optical sensors, as the determination of the spectral response of the crop and study of different vegetation index; field experiments in the form of culture strips to test a strategy recommendation for nitrogen at variable rates; and total area experiments to evaluate the technique of nitrogen recommendation supported by optical sensors according the use of inputs and changes in productivity.
