The sustainability issue has been more valued as humanity begins to understand the consequences of disregarding the laws of natural balance of available resources. In this context, ways to reorganize production in order to better utilization of by-products, as well as focusing efforts and resources on renewable energy sources are increasingly important points. The Brazilian energy matrix is mainly from hydroelectric sources, but other forms of energy, including waste generated form has also received increased attention in Brazil. In this context, the objective of this research is to evaluate the socio-economic and environmental feasibility of alternative energy production from by-products of sugar and energy system. This is an applied research, quali-quantitative, involving the characterization and comparison of different alternatives, based on variables of cost, production, logistics, emissions, employment generation, energy efficiency, among others. For primary data collection should be conducted interviews with plant managers and technicians of sugar and energy sector, researchers in the field, as well as policy makers in the field of study. For quantitative data collection, forms will be used. Quantitative analysis of the data will be performed by statistical techniques and modeling as a decision tree. For the economic analysis of the feasibility of investment techniques will be utilized financial mathematics, such as Return on Investment (ROI) and Net Present Value (NPV) of the alternatives. It is expected to bring a contribution, through the research, to solve the problem of energy and waste management. (AU)
