Abstract

This research aims to describe the prosodic behavior of prosodic of prepositions a, de, por, com, em, do(s), da(s), no(s), na(s), ao(s), à(s) and para Brazilian Portuguese (BP) of the variety of São José do Rio Preto (SP), searching for evidence of segmental processes cliticização these prepositions. In this work, for the phonological analysis of the data, taking as a basis the theory of Nespor and Vogel (1986), about the prosodic domains, and take up the arguments of Bisol (2005), on the behavior of the clitics in Brazilian Portuguese. As research material, are used 32 surveys selected spontaneous speech sample census database IBORUNA, result of the project Linguistics Sample Interior Paulista - ALIP (FAPESP 03/08058-6), depending on the extralinguistic variables controlled in that bank data, namely: (i) age, (ii) education level, and (iii) sex / gender. Based on the analysis of the surveys hearsay speech, we found several segmental processes and external sandhi that prepositions are subject. In this paper, we describe all these processes and focus on the analysis of the processes of hollow external sandhi vowel, such as degemination, diphthongation and elision, because they allow to investigate the phenomenon of prosodização. From the description of monosyllabic prepositions in the range to be investigated, we seek to contribute to the characterization and description of the expansion of the Portuguese spoken in the North West Paulista, besides providing a reflection on the status of these prosodic elements clitics in Portuguese.
