Abstract

In Leishmania infection is the involvement of specific and nonspecific immune response in disease progression. Many growth factors have effect on this parasite-host interaction as the factor of insulin-like growth I (IGF-I). The work done by the group of Prof. Hiro Goto show that IGF-I promotes the proliferation of extrinsic parasite and progression of the infection increased the production of nitric oxide and arginase activation of macrophages and the parasite. However, IGF-I is present constitutively in macrophages and macrophage lineage found in RAW 264.7 immortalized his silencing with RNA interference (RNAi) reduces parasitism. How important to check whether the same result is achieved with a non-macrophage lineage tumors, we propose to evaluate the effect of inhibiting the expression of IGF-I on parasitism and production of nitric oxide in murine macrophages infected with Leishmania (L.) major . Tests will be performed in peritoneal macrophages and bone marrow in order to compare the results in these cell types.
