Abstract

Due to global warming and the imminent increase of animal production in tropical areas, the study about thermal equilibrium of the animals becomes essential, once that thermal stress influences directly their productivity. Poultry has a major importance in the Brazilian agricultural scene, so there is a great importance to the development of techniques applicable to birds' husbandry conditions, to predict their condition of thermal comfort. Based on these information, the study will be realized with data collection from several flocks of chickens, to the obtainment of a database that will guarantee reliability and the settlement of a physical model to poultry thermal equilibrium in accordance to the diverse environmental conditions, installments and periods of the year. The pioneering of the research must be stands out, about the settlement of heat and mass flows of birds in situations closer to the husbandry systems, to tropical environment. There will be settled chickens metabolism, as well as heat and mass transfer in three layers: flow among body nucleus and skin surface; flow among skin surface and plumage; flow among plumage and environment. So, thermal stock of bird will be obtained, which will permit the evaluation if they are closer to thermoneutrality or not, and the possible measures to permit that the birds reach a condition closer to thermal equilibrium.
