Abstract Introduction: Conjoined twins are a rare occurrence in medical practice and their separation is a challenge to surgeons. In our country, when diagnoses of conjoined twins is made, pregnancy is followed in a tertiary obstetric and neonatal center. We analyzed the casuistic of this kind of gemerarity in Children´s Institute of University of São Paulo Medical School, aiming to give substract to epdemiological data and future research in this field.Objectives: We aimed to analyze, emphasizing sugical aspects, the casuistic of conjoined twins in our center.Methods: All the medical records of conjoined twins treated in our center from january 2000 to may 2011 will be revised. Evaluated data include: anatomic description of the twins, sex, birth weight, if the diagnosis was pre or post-natal, pre-operative evaluation, definition if the separation was possible or not, description of surgical steps and wall closure, anesthetic and surgical times, post-operative complications, inhospital and ambulatorial follow-up and survival. | |
